The Military Order of the Purple Heart awarded National Distinuished Service Awards to the 3d United States Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) in "appreciation for military funerals and interments with full military honors performed by the 3d United States Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) throughout the United States of America" and to the 1st Battalion, 3d United States Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) in "appreciation for military funerals and interments with full military honors performed by the 1st Bn, 3d United States Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) at Arlington National Cemetery".
